The Largest Refuge Camp In The World
The world’s largest refugee camp is now the size of a small city and home to almost 350,000. Dadaab, a refugee camp spanning over 15 square miles is a semi-arid town in Garissa County, Kenya.
It is the site of a large UNHCR base hosting people in five camps as of October 2015, making it the largest refugee camp complex in the world. Since the 1990s there have been over 25,000 households, 42 schools, 22 hospitals, hundreds of markets, shops and other facilities. Most residents under 24 were born in the camp with 95% coming from war torn Somalia with 200,000 under 18.
